Day 6.7 & 8 of 100 Happy Days

I totally suck.
I only made it 5 days before I didn't post a "happy".
Honestly, we were stuck home all weekend because the weather was just rain, rain and more rain.
I did leave on Saturday to take the 15 yo to his hockey game because unless it's lightening out, they play.
We were all soaked.

Sunday was a blah day.
Stuck around the house.
Made dinner.
The usual.

The one thing that made me happy over the weekend was seeing Bobster & Cheeks, both in their underwear, sitting side by side on the couch, eating and drinking like they were in a men's club.  I didn't take a photo because, well Bobster would kill me.  It just made me smile since it showed father and son in pure bliss.  Underwear, food and tv.  For those two it doesn't get much better.

Today's happy was the fact that my day went super fast.
Lightening fast!
Woosh & the day was over.
Well the work day.

Of course, I think it's time we all get happy.

Feast your eyes on this toe tapper.

Love this song.

Well, come on, tell me what made you happy today?

Day 5 100 Happy Days

At first it was taking a lot for me to find stuff to be happy about today.
I was an hour late for work.
At lunch time, the school nurse called me & said Cheeks had a rash all over his tummy.
I had to leave an hour early to take him back to the nurse practitioner because they weren't there when his father took him & he couldn't take him back because the middle boy had hockey practice.

Then the nurse practitioner, who by the way, is the best, told me she couldn't figure out what the rash was from.  So some allergy med & prescription strength hydrocortisone cream later, we headed for home.

Then I remember it's Friday.

That is what made me happy.

Plus the cold weather broke & it made it to 60 degrees today!  With a slight breeze.  My type of weather.

I'm off the next two days.
I can sleep in tomorrow.  It's supposed to be torrential rains, so it will be good sleeping weather.

Yea, I'm happy.

How 'bout you?

BFF Day 4 of 100 Happy Days

Today's happy is brought to you by these two:

Best Friends!
That is my sister's boyfriend's little boy, B, he's 8.
Of course, you know the Cheekers, he's 7.

They love each other.
B is up here til Saturday (he lives in Florida) so tonight we had dinner over at my sister's so we could see him and obviously so the kids could play.

That B is such a character and a very sweet boy.

It just made me happy see my two fave second graders getting to play together and see each other.

Day 3 of 100 Happy Days

For the last week, New Jersey has heard about the big snow coming our way.
Huge!
Gonna be big!

Well this is what we got:

Little to none or a dusting as they call it.
I was so happy.
I think I did a happy dance.

Best of all, it was all gone by the time I left work.

Don't get me wrong, I don't mind snow but NJ has gotten more than their fair share this winter.  Plus the first day of spring was just a few days ago.

That is what made me happy...dusting of snow.

What did it for you today?

A Bit of a Fire on The 100 Happy Days Day 2

Fire.
Fire good said the caveman.  Right? Right.
Perhaps fire was good for them.
Me, not so much.

See I accidentally set my crockpot on fire last night.
Before you get all "OOOH! Electrical fire".
Nope.
Not even plugged in.
Now that is talent!

I have a very, very small counter next to my stove.
My lazy tushy decided that would be a good place to put my crockpot instead of away because I was planning on using it today.
Really, why would I want to go the addition 24inches into the pantry when the counter was right there.

Last night was pasta night.
I turned on the burner after I put the pot of water on & went to the dining room.
About 5 mins later I hear a loud Pop.

I go to investigate, don't see anything but smell the awful plastic burning.

Yes, folks, the crockpot was hanging just a tad bit over & when I turned the burner on, the flames decided to heat up the crockpot.
So much so, that it melted the base, has a screw hanging out of it and the little screen that tells you what you are setting is black.

For some reason I do not think this is covered under warranty.
Just sayin.

On a better note, today is Day 2 of the 100 Happy Days challenge.

What was I happy about today.
Feast your eyes on my little sculptor & his sculpture.

He made it all himself & painted it.
I see future artiste in da house!  Holla!

It's actually really cute and after a so/so day at work, this made me happy.
He is so proud of it and I am so proud of him.

What made you happy today?

100 Happy Days Challenge: Day 1

I first learned of this challenge over at Elsie Larson's blog: A Beautiful Mess.  I learned of Elsie back when I was scrapbooking on a regular basis.  I digress on the scrapping.

Anyway she talked about the challenge over at 100 Happy Days.  Finding something to be happy about everyday for 100 days.  The name is pretty self explanatory.

I figured why not? I can do this. I can find something every single day.  I have a husband and kids.  That makes me happy every day.  Well, you know, when they are neat, clean, & respectable.  Ok, so maybe not everyday.

Anyway todays happy is found in tulips.

These tulips are given to all the women at my job by a fellow co-worker.  He gives them every first day of spring (It helps that his girlfriend is a florist..tee hee).  He has never missed a year since I started back in '98.

They are sitting on top of the filing cabinet that sits in between my desk & my boss'.  I swung around today, saw them and smiled.   They are starting to open and I just thought they looked so pretty.  There are four for the four women in my department & we are the only department that is made up of all women!

Tell me, what made you happy today.

MVP in Da House

Who won MVP for Offense in his hockey division?
That kid, right up there.

I have never seen a kid play so hard and with so much heart in my life.
He is so good that when is on "deck" the other coaches tell their kids to be all over him.  He usually has three of the opposite team players trying to block him...from anything.

He totally deserves this award.
I'm not just saying that because he's mine...I'll throw him under the bus if I have to but he deserves it!

Now he's on a travel hockey tournament league.
We travel all over South Jersey.
They are good games.  The kids are the best of the best.
Chris plays hard, sweats hard & um, stinks hard.  Not gonna lie on that one.

Tell me do your kids play sports?

Cheekisms

My sweet angelic boy, Cheeks, up there has such a way with words.
Obviously he's angelic...he's wearing a halo!  Hello!

Anywho the other day we were driving home from school when he tells me there is a new student in his class.  His name is Yaya.  I asked Cheeks if he was nice & he said he shook his hand & welcomed him to the school.

I asked where Yaya was from.
Cheeks replied "Boxsan"
"What?" was my response.
"Boxsan" even more exaggerated now because I have managed to annoy him.
He then looks me in the eye & says "It's a country!"
So I drive a little bit, it hits me, I look at him & say "Cheeks did you meet Botswana?"
He was like "Yea, that's it!"

That made me giggle the rest of the way home.

Then last weekend on the way to our hockey banquet for Christopher, I decided to go out on a limb & put make up on.
I don't wear it everyday.
I used to, then I got pregnant & suffered so bad from morning sickness that I couldn't stand up to apply.  Then Bobster told me he liked me sans makeup.  Well game on Bobster...no make up it is.

Just as I was finishing my application Cheeks walks in, takes one look at me & declares
"You look like a pop tart!"

I was to stunned to say anything.  Then when his father commented Cheeks said it again.

I don't know what to do with this kid.

Sometimes he gets me laughing so much I can discipline him for being a smart mouth.

Do you have this same problem?

Book #5: Worthy Brown's Daughter by Phillip Margolin

The question is, is Worthy Brown's Daughter worthy of a review?

I'd say yes.

I was lucky enough to win this book from Sweeps4Bloggers.  If you haven't visited her website...go, go, go!  Trust me, daily contests to win & this is the second book I've won from her giveaways.

Anywho back to Worthy.  Set in Oregon in the slave days right before Lincoln took office, it's a story of a free slave who was promised his daughter would be free as well.  Things do not go a planned thus the tale.

While the book kept my interest, I really feel it focused on a side story rather than Worthy.  He was included but at a bare minimal.  The story flows well, has excitement, intrigue and a love story.

I don't want to give away the ending so I will say that I just wished they focuses more on Worthy and his daughter.

Is it worth a read?
Sure thing!

Tell me, what are you currently reading?
Or leave me a comment with a book you recommend I read.

K is for Kid, K is for Karate, K is for Kids Karate

Yes, we have a karate master in the house.
At least according to him.
Him being Cheeks.

Signed him up for karate.
I gave him a choice.
Flag football or karate.
He chose karate.

I didn't think he was going to make it.
First class was Thursday night and he sat against the wall & didn't participate.
See he was wearing the "uniform" and all the other kids were wearing blue shirts.

Then his friend, Stanley, showed up.
Did I see a glimmer of hope that his 'tude would change around?
It didn't.
At least not at first.

When he got home, his big brother called from Florida to tell him that he did karate when he was Cheeks age and that he has to stick with it.
After some coaching from his brother & dad, he decided to give it another try.

I had another child on my hands today.
He participated.
He has a great time.
He learned moves.
He wore a blue shirt.

He earned his white belt:

Take a bow kid, you deserve it.

Most of all, I heard him yell "Yes sir, No sir" and actually listen to the instructor.

Keep your fingers crossed.
With this and his behavioral help that he gets once a week, maybe his 'tude will change.

In the meantime, meet the new generation of Karate Kids!

I can't stand the cuteness!

What do you kids participate in?
Give me ideas.
