First PSA for 2010

It's time readers.
For your first official PSA of the new year.

This PSA can not come a moment too soon.
Let me say this.
It's February.
The Groundhog has seen his freakin shadow.
The Presidents are getting ready for their sales birthdays.
And
The day to celebrate "love" is quickly approaching.
So if your yard looks like this:

You may want to change out the decor to something like this:

That's right.
Here it is the 2nd month of the New Year & people still have Christmas decorations up.
This worries me.
Perhaps they aren't prepared to let go.
Or they just figure they will be early for next week.

Well either way, please, please take it down.

You really don't want to be wearing your Easter bonnet while posing next to your one branch Christmas tree come April, do you?

Thanks!

This hits home

I am posting this for family friends.

Please read the following article taken from
Stars & Stripes

Airman killed in auto accident near Aviano
Stars and Stripes
European edition, Tuesday, September 1, 2009
A U.S. airman and two Italians were killed in a three-vehicle accident Friday afternoon, according to a 31st Fighter Wing news release.

The accident occurred about 4:50 p.m. near the town of Giais, a few miles northeast of Aviano Air Base, Italy. Authorities declined to release the name of the airman until verification that family members have been notified.

The airman was medically evacuated to a hospital in Udine where he was pronounced dead, according to the release.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

What you don't know and what I would like to bring to your attention is this:

After flying to Italy, SSgt Dos Reis' parents viewed their deceased son on Saturday & were told to return Monday to officially id him in the prescense of Italian Authorities. Upon their return they were shocked & horrified at the state of decomposition of h is remains due to improper temperature maintenance.

Conversations with officials, both on base & attached to the military funeral corps, indicated Italians do not meet American standard of funeral preservations & were told the the American officials were powerless to assist or intercede in the "civil" matter. The parents recognize the local gov't maintains legal authority regarding these investigations, this is not in the dispute. However, they do not agree w/ the lack of oversight by our gov't while a dead airman's remains are in the hands of foriegn civil authority.

I am writing this to urge you to write your Congressman & plea for help in lodging a formal protest w/ the US Air Force & the gov't of Italy. The formal protest is due to the lack of preservation & handling of their son's remains. He was 22 yo's & served for 3 1/2 years when he was involved in the fatal auto accident while on his way to report for duty.

Thank you for reading
&
If you need addresses for Congressman let me know!

Ugh & Ouch

Back when I was preggers w/ Cheeks I was diagnosed by having gallstones.
Well I never had attacks so I forgot & then if I did remember I thought, oh they must have read the xray or u/s wrong.

Yes, yes, they didn't read it wrong.
Why?
I am having gallstone pain.

While I realize it's relatively mild for now & I pray it stays that way til I get to my doc next week, it is still a stabbing, breath taking pain by my ribs on the right side.

This started about a week or so ago.
The pain would increase when I ate, especially if it was high fat (aka fried).

I started to put two & two together yesterday.
Asked a few people who had stones & they said "Oh yes, sounds like they are acting up!"
Then I looked up my symptoms on line.
Probably the worse thing you can do b/c not only do I have stones I think I have scurvy & diptheeria.
I digress.

Last night, the pain decided to play a new trick on me & when I would move in my sleep or move standing up quickly, it would decide to make itself knows.
Ouch!

So please pray for me this holds off until Thursday when I have an appt. w/ my dr.
I don't fancy a trip to the hospital.

I looked up what not to eat w/ stones.
Yep.
I should be dropping weight like no one's business.
Gone is my morning bagel, hello yogurt...good thing I like yogurt.

If you have any suggestions for help w/ the pain, lemme know.

Late!

Vampires are all the rage, so donate today.

Since Vampires are the big deal now (Hello...Team Edward here!!), I decided I would beat them to their own game.

This past Friday my work had the
Red Cross bus come to the parking lot & those of us who signed up let the vampires suck us dry.

Last time I tried to donate I had low iron. This time I past the iron test with flying colors (13.4) & my blood pressure was good (104/62) so I was given the a-ok to give. I managed to fill my bag in 6 minutes flat. I am a good bleeder!

They ask some crazy questions before you can give. My favorite is "Are you still a woman?" Well when I put my bra on that morning I was, but God knows what happen on the way to work.

My real question to my faithful readers is:
Have you given blood lately?
When was the last time?
Are you a regular donator?
Let me know!

Late!

S.O.S. I Give Up!

I am turning to my bloggy peeps.
I need to know where to find cute, different, albeit inexpensive clothes for my 2yo.
He is wearing 4T or 5T shirts but 2T or 3T pants (altho. his pants fall off of him so I think he maybe 24 months in the pants....none the less!)

I hit all the staples.
Children's Place
Old Navy
Gymboree
Janie & Jack
Crazy 8
Baby Gap/Gap Kids
Target
Walmart

I just want something w/o a monster, robot or character of sort on his shirts & something cute for his bottoms.

Boys get the short end of the stick when it comes to fashion.
Sure, I wouldn't put my kid in a cherry laden short set but perhaps a nice blue T with cute shorts would be more appropriate.
Ha!
Unless I want the T to have a pic of a monster on it, I am out of lock.

So, bloggy friends, were do you find cute boys clothes???

Tide Loads of Help

Come join me in helping our nation.

You can purchase this shirt (& others in different colors & styles) here:
Tide Loads of Help

What is it all about you ask?
Here ya go:

Tide Loads of Hope helps in the aftermath of a natural disaster by providing clean clothes and a sense of comfort to families in need. Partnering with Feeding America, we travel to disaster affected neighborhoods with the Tide Loads of Hope truck or vans, our free mobile laundry service.

  • Tide Loads of Hope truck:
32 high-effiency washers and dryers stationed on the truck
Can do 300 wash and dry cycles a day -equal to one year's worth of laundry for a single family
Will wash about 9,000 loads of laundry over a four-week period
Leveraged during massive disasters where electricity is unavailable in the region

  • Tide Loads of Hope vans:
In partnership with a local laundromat, the Tide Loads of Hope vans provide free laundry service at the same load rate as the trucks
Leveraged during disasters where neighboring communities still have a source of electricity

To date, Tide Loads of Hope has washed more than 35,000 loads of laundry for over 20,000 families. Most importantly, the Tide Loads of Hope program means we're equipped to take action whenever and wherever there is a need in our country.

Tide Loads of Hope Vintage Tees:
Tide Loads of Hope can also be supported through the purchase of a Tide Vintage Tee. All profits go to support families affected by disaster.

Where it all started
In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the need for clean clothing became critical, and Tide found a way to help. So in November 2005, the Tide Loads of Hope truck headed to Camp Hope in the Metairie, LA area and cleaned over 10,000 loads of laundry. The spirit of this first venture informs and inspires everything Tide Loads of Hope program does.

Will you help out?
I hope so.

A fellow, kick ass blogger!

Stephanie Nielson, a kick ass blogger, mommy, devoted wife & all around wonderful person, & her husband were involved in a horrible private plane crash on Saturday, August 16th. Thankfully none of their children were on the plane. Only one other person was on the flight & sadly, he passed away from injuries sustained during the accident.

My heart goes out to this family. Christian, Stephanie's husband, has sustained burns over 30% of his body. Stephanie has burns over 80% of body & being kept sedated. The doctors have told their family it will be months worth of recovery. Stephanie will look very different once she has healed.

During their recovery, their medical bills are growing & growing. If you click that button up there, you can donate to the fund to help with their expenses. Their children are with Stephanie's sister in Utah.

You can go here:

cjanerun

To get updates. It's Stephanie's sister's blog.

This button:

will take you to her recovery blog. Here you can see all the benefits going on for her. Including auctions from tons of different bloggers to help raise money for this family.

My heart goes out to this family.
I can't imagine the heartache they are going through & what The Nielson's young children are wondering about, when mommy & daddy are coming home.

So, please, visit the sites above & if you can donate or even offer an auction of something.
