Who Missed Me?

Did you notice I was gone?
I haven't been around.
Why you ask? Meghan, where o' where have you been?  Somewhere exotic & tropical? Somewhere fun w/ cabana boys peeling you grapes?

If only.

I was here.
My computer...not so much.

It appears that I still had an entire folder of my ex's on my computer.
For those that are new to the bloggeroo, I was previously married
I like to refer to him as the Porn King of South Jersey.
I was so proud.

Anywho, unbeknownst to me, his folder was still on the computer & I couldn't remove it because I didn't have administration privaliges (that so looks spelled wrong!).
Well I decided to click on a link...it was to a music sight.
Before it even had a chance to load, I closed it.

That's all it took.
1. 2. 3.
Computer infected with a virus that would only open porn or have me buy a virus protection.

The Grandpop decided he would buy me a computer for my birthday next month (I will be entering a new decade so it's a big one...it's not every day a girl turns 21...I was a child bride OK!).

Anywho I am up & running, sadly I lost everything on the old 'puter, including pics of all the kids & fam etc.
I am hoping my IT dept at work will take pity on me & take a gander at the old hard drive to see if anything is salvagable (my spelling is so off tonight).

But stick around...I have reviews coming, tidbits of my life & a giveaway.
Oh that's right.
I said giveaway!

Let me know how you have been!!!

Thank God, I got an adorable kid!

There I was.
Minding my own business.
Driving the mini van.
Off the exit ramp of one highway.
On to another highway.

Well at the top of that exit ramp is a 8 sided sign.
In red.
Has 4 letters on.
Normally I would see this.
I grew up here.
Today I kind of kept glancing to see if there was traffic coming in the lane I was going.
It wasn't.
So in the words of Cher from Clueless...
"I totally paused"

Unbeknowst to me, in my lane, beyond were I could see, was a police car.
With a policeman in it.

Next thing I know, the lights go on & I pull over.
He pulls behind me!!!
As if.

I had all my stuff ready.
He told me why he was pulling me over.
He was the sweetest cop EVER!

Then my Cheeks asked me a questioned & I replied.
The police officer thought I was talking to him & asked me to repeat myself.
I told him I was talking to my son, that his dad & I were trying to teach him that police officers are good & he is to go to one if he ever gets lost or in trouble.
The police officer moved so he could see Cheeks & said "Hey Buddy!" and smiled.

After he walked back to his car, to run my license & such, Cheeks says "Mommy is he going to write you a ticket?"
I told him I hoped not
BUT
I broke the law.

About 2 mins later the police officer appears at my window.
Hands me my stuff
Then
Hands me police badge stickers for my "little guy!"
He then really nicely reminded me about the stop sign at the top of the ramp & let me go.

NO TICKET!

Thank God for cute kids!!
And really nice police officers!!

Have you ever gotten out of a ticket?
LMK!

Psst...want some cute shoes for boys!

Being the mom of a boy & only boys, I realize boys get the short end of the stick when it comes to cute outfits  & accessories.

Well, parents of boys, fret no more.
Megryan's Mom is having a giveaway.
For what you ask?
For Uneaks.
Great fashionable sneaks & sox boys.

Wait! This could be a bad idea because if you enter her contest, my chances of winning get slimmer.
This is very much the conundrum!
Well, the good heart in me is going to allow you all to enter the contest.

What are you waiting for?
Go!

NJ MOM BLOG

PSA~Pronunciation

Let me just start by saying this is not another PSA about how to pronounce or even spell my name.
Although I think we could use refesher. Especially for those who email me or respond to my emails which has my name in it & still spell it Megan.  Sigh.  My mom gave me the "h" for a reason.

This PSA is about how people pronounce certain words because they drop a letter.
I took linguistics in college...I understand dialects are regionals.  Trust me I was up my Linguistic Professor's ass!  Passed w/ a B!!!

This is about when people feel it necessary to drop the pronunciation of letters that clearly exist in words.

For example, today I was speaking with a woman on the phone.
I updated her on the status of something she was looking for.
Her reply:
"Uh, uh, no way, I orda that lat munt"
Thankfully because I have dealt with the public since high school I was able to decipher that she said:
"Uh, uh, no way, I ordered that last month"

Perhaps she thought the "s" in last was optional.
Sort of like stop signs....feel free to blow them, it's just an option to stop.

Now "munt" is just wrong altogether.
I can only deduce that she felt the ending "h" in the word, making th sound, was merely a suggestion. Such as a speed limit is a suggestion for roads.

"Hey if you would like to pronoune the th sound, feel free, but if you don't, then that's ok too"
Of course, she subbed a "u" for the "o".  Common in some areas of the country...I assume.

I wanted to help.
I wanted to teach her how to speak properly but I thought she obviously has more important things in this life like getting her hearing tested when I had to repeat my answer to her 3x's.
Her prompt reply all 3x's:
"Whaaaaa?"

Again, she chose not to pronounce the "t".
Really, why should she.
Clearly, an optional letter in the world.

So, please, world, if the letter is meant to be pronounce, please pronounce it.
Of course, if it is not meant to be pronounced, like say the "h" in Meghan, then don't say it.  Trust me, after almost 40 yrs the joke gets tired of people saying "Meg-Han"

Tell me what pronunciation of a word drives you crazy?

Did you know May is National Foster Care Month?

Adoption and foster care is close to my heart.  Not because I am adopted (I'm not) or I was in foster care (I wasn't), neither was anyone in my family BUT
Because children of all ages need good homes.
Older children, as we all know, have a tougher time being adopted.  Foster families are needed for children of all ages, sizes, colors and needs as are adoptive families.

The total number of children waiting for a safe, permanent family have from more than half a million to 463,000 in 5 yrs!  That's incredible!!!

Please welcome my guest blogger: Adopt Us Kids

Did you know it would take less than 1% of the U.S. population to provide a family for every child in foster care?

May is National Foster Care Month and there has never been a greater need to bring attention to children waiting for forever homes. More than 463,000 children are currently in foster care and 123,000 children are waiting to be adopted.
Children in foster care are loving children. They are children like Shaquane and Edlina and Albert. Every child deserves to have a home with caring and supportive parents.
Help us spread the message this month to reach all Americans and teach them about the love and joy that foster care adoption can bring to your life.

Visit www.adoptuskids.org to learn more about fostering and adopting. You can also join our online communities on Facebook and Twitter.

So, do you want to get involved?
Any way you can?
Visit: http://adoptuskids.org/content.aspx?q=National-Foster-Care-Month to see how you can make a difference in a child's life!!!  I know I will.

It's a review, no it's a giveaway, no it's a review & a giveaway! Woo!

One World One Love by Michael Bolton.
Look at those eyes!
So blue!
&
That smile...oooh la la.

He's a good lookin guy sans the mullet.
Thank God that trend went to the wayside.

Onto the cd.
One World One Love is a cd of island melodies.
I was listening this in the mini van on a hot day with Bobster & the kids.
As soon as it started playing I was daydreaming about being on a carribean island...alone.

This is definitely a cd that you will want to have in your collection.
I can almost hear this music being played at Bahama Breeze & Sandals as I type!

Not to mention on this cd he has collaborated w/ Lady Gaga (Cheeks fav) & Ne-yo.
He's also touring the US & Europe for 6 months.

Out of the songs on the cd, my fav has got to be Ready for You.
Puts me in a relaxed mood immediately!

Not only did I get to review this great cd, Thanks to Team Mom Media, they are also providing me with one copy to give away to one of my lucky readers!!!

Thinking ahead

Whew!
Will you look at that shine on that bald little head?
Sad, really.
The bald spot is back yet I don't look that cute any longer.
Yep.
Still chubby.
Yep.
Bald spot.
Yep.
Still smiling (with the help of medication...girls got to do what a girls got to do!)
Sadly, the big 40 is approaching.
Can you stand it?
I can't.

In just a little bit more than 2 months I will 40.
Really, I don't get it.
At work they just hired a new girl for our sales department.
She's 21.
Her mom?
40!
Yep.
My age.
Dear God, how is this happening!!!???

Inside I feel like a kid.
Especially if my mom is around.
Why?
Well she's the mom.

Does that mean, that I will the mom to Cheeks & his friends?
I know I am the mom but will I be THE mom.
You know, the one who can fix the problems, cook the meals, comfort when sick.
The kids in Cheeks preschool call me "Cheek's mom", then they usually tattle on him.
That's another post.
Cheeks & his preschool.

Tell me, are you having a momental bday this year?
Had one?
How did you cope?
I know 40 is still young & viral.
It's just that 40 is like a "moms" age.
KWIM?

Ciao!

Sigh

That's me.
Not happy right now.

Kinda blue.

Why?
1. I am still cameraless.
Yep.
No camera.
Still waiting to get the money to get fixed.
I feel like an appendage has been removed.

2. I just got some fresh strawberries.
Cut them up.
Put some whipped cream on them
&
Sat down to eat them.

Apparently, I am now allergic to strawberries.
My mouth is itching & my lips feel like they are chapped & swollen & they also itch.
Sigh.
That is what happens when I eat apples, peaches, kiwis, pears etc.
Except my throat closes up with those.

Gotta love it!

On a brighter note, I did get to scrap this weekend.
I know.
Don't fall off of your chairs.
I did 4 pages!!

I would share but my scanner needs some sort of wire to make it work & I have yet to figure it out.
I would take pics but well you know the situation.

I might take some pics with my phone.
Yea, that's the ticket.

OOH! Tell me who used to say that line.
Do you remember?

Leave me a comment & I will let you know if you are right.

Ciao!

Here's your real NJ Housewives!

I'm not gonna lie to you.
I love this show.
Monday night I was riveted to Bravo watching the rerun's of the NJ Housewives, waiting for the premiere of the second season to start.

I watched.
I enjoyed.
BUT
While I thoroughly enjoy this show this is not the reality of a NJ housewife.

First, these women are from North Jersey.
To us in South Jersey, that's like another state.
Plus they are from Franklin Lakes.
Um, hello, upper class neighborhood.

I would like Bravo to featur the real housewives of NJ.
Those of us who get up in the morning.
Get ourselves and our family ready for the day.
Then fill up the "used" minivan on our ATM card & hope it doesn't clear before we get paid.
Drop off the kids at school/pre-school.
Then head off to work for 9 hours minus 1 hour for lunch.
Leave work,
Pick up child from day care.
Head home,in traffic, on a hot day in a car w/o a/c.
Make dinner but first clean up the mess that has magically appeared from early in the day when no one was home.
Clean up dinner.
Do some laundry.
Bathe some kids.
Put kids to bed.
Pick up.
Figure out how to make the money last all month.

You all get the drift.
I want to see the moms who do it all.
Who lose sleep over the bills being paid or the child acting up at daycare & it is "obviously" only your child who is doing this.

The moms who are overweight.
Don't wear make up all day.
Barely do their hair.
Hope the clothes they have on aren't stained.

Film the kids.
Watch while the youngest runs around half naked yelling "penis, magina! I like them mommy"
Focus on the father who asks any of the children to "pull his finger" so he can omit a loud noise that is usually followed by a smell so foul we have to fumigate the house.

Yes,America, this is the life of a real NJ Housewife.
Where our parties are few & far between & usually involve some sort of demonstration, ie: Tastefully Simple, Tupperware.
Fundraising?
Would you like to buy some wrapping paper for my kids preschool?
Great that will be $12!

So tell me, how is it being a housewife in your town?

Question for you

How did you meet your significant other?
Internet?
Boy/girl next door?
High school?
College?

Do tell.

I met Bobster thru one of my best friends, Kathy.
She thought I would like him.

She held a picnic at her house so we could meet & chat.
That was a 3pm.
I got home at like 1am!
Ha!

I think we dated for about 10 days before we became an official couple.
Here it is....almost 5 years later.

So give me the deets on how you met your sweetie!

Who knew!!!!!!!!?????

Look at this "out of the blue" email I got today:

My name is Lee Kiang, an attorney at law. A deceased client of mine, that shares
the same last name as yours died as the result of a heart-related
condition in March 12th 2008.
I have contacted you to assist in claiming the money left behind by my
client(US$19 milliondollars) in the bank.
Reply me through this email:
Regards

Lee Kiang

I am so upset over my never met/never knew relative dying from some heart related condition
BUT
it was so kind of him/her to leave me all this money.
They must have known I need the cash.

Of course, I am perplexed.

Most of my relatives are from Ireland, Scotland or Germany mostly.
Really the last few generations are from NJ, PA & KY.

I never, ever figured I had a relative somewhere other than those places.
Sure this unknown, generous relative could be from the places I mentioned but my heart is telling me they have been living in an Asian country for awhile.

Just a feeling.

Tell me, have you lost a unknown relative and stand to inherit millions?
I hope you have contacted the lawyer.

I am off right now with my soc sec number & bank info in an email to this lawyer.

Really, it's legit!
Come on.
Why would someone not leave me this amount of cash.

Well I am going to go peruse the real estate websites to see if I can find a mansion for when my money comes in.

Woo hoo!

Can I have jam please?

A frequently asked question upon entrance to the van by the Cheeks.
"Can I have jam please?"
or while flipping thru the tv we come across a video.
"Mommy, I wanna see that. It's jam!"

Let me show you who sings said jam:
Oh, that's right.
Cheeks is an avid fan of Lady Gaga.

I mean he luvs her.
He knows all the words to "Bad Romance", it's his "jam"
He loves to watch her videos when they come on.

Of course, I let him watch what I deem appropriate.
He will even dance to her music.

I think he has a little crush on her.
Altho. his type is usually woman w/ extremely dark hair & very pale skin.
Snow White type.

Go figure.

Tell me who are your kiddos into?

A Fools Bet

You would think by now he would learn.
He would learn to never doubt my endless knowledge of useless celebrity/music facts.
If there is no point in really knowing this info.,then I know it.

Case in point.
Watchin "American Gangsta" with Bobster.
Scene comes on.
I say "Is every rapper in this movie?"
Him "What are you talking about?"
Me "Well that's Common, he used to rap, now he focuses on acting & his girlfriend is Serena Williams.  That one is T.I.  He's in jail, just about to get out or just got out"
Him "No way!"
Me "Really, wanna bet? Go google it"
We bet.  I don't want to say what the wager was but involved produce.
Me "What's that hon? Those actors are Common & T.I. No, say it isn't so"
Bet #1 Winner:  Me!

Other night watching "Wall Street" we start to talk about Martin Sheen & Charlie Sheen.
Me" Yes, Bobster, I know they are father & son.  He is also the father of Emilio Estevez.  Martin Sheen's real last name is Estevez & he changed it.  Charlie's real name is Carlos"
Him "You're lying.  They have the same father but not the same mother.  Martin had custody of Emilio before he got married"
Me: "Oh Bob, do you really want to go down this road?  They have the same mom & he has 2 more kids with her, a girl & a boy"
Him "Wanna bet? Look it up!"
We wager (him, produce again, me, foot rub)
So I IDMB it & lo & behold there it is.
Martin Sheen married Janet Templeton & they have four children.
Together.
Bet #2: Winner: Me!
Bring on the foot rub!

The End.

It's a Monday on a Thursday

So while I sit home today, with no brakes on the mini van, missing a day of work & waiting to get my tush to Pep Boys, I have decided to paricipate in the "Not Me" meme that is usually done on Mondays.
Hence while I am doing it on Thursday.

For those that don't know what it is, it was started by MckMama (google her, I can't link, slows the darn 'puter down) to say what she did during the week but didn't do.  That type of thing.
You'll figure it out when you read mine.
Altho. mine is a compilation of things I didn't really do for a some time.

See:
It wasn't me that told my 3 yo as I wiped his tush & he wimpered that "Oh it would be a lot worse if you were in prison!"

It was not me who served myself & the 3yo grilled cheese & macaroni & cheese for dinner.

It was not me who wasn't concerned that Bobster fed our son a soft pretzel for lunch & called it a day.

Those are just some of the fun highlights in the not me world of my life.

How about you?
What not me moments have you had this week?

It's a banner day for us!

I would like to report that for almost a week and a half, we have been BINKY free!
Oh that's right.

I took it from him the night before Easter.

Why you ask?
Well he asked to have it while watching his movie in his pj's right before bed.
I said ok.
I glance at him.
There it is, in his mouth, sucking away.

A few minutes later, I look at him & it's gone.
No biggie.
Probably just fell in his lap.
No,no.
Glance back, he yawns.
There is the entire green binky in his mouth & his lips are covering it.

I had him hand me the binky & told him he wasn't getting back.
He asked me for it at bedtime but I was steadfast & said no.

He didn't cry for it.
He did the next morning for about 20 mins but I held out & didn't give it.
He asked for it at night but for the past 3 nights he has not asked.

Woo hoo!

So at 3 and a half years old, we are finally binky free.

Yay!

Spring Time, my mortal enemy!

First I would like to show all of you who I was next to, in front of or behind on the way home today.
Oh that's right.
That's the infamous WeinerMobile.
Lemme tell ya, it's a swee ride.
Cheeks was tickled to death & just had to tell everyone he saw the hot dog truck on the way home.

It was a beautiful day in beautiful South Jersey
BUT
Sadly, I suffer from horrendous allergies.
Take a peek at my eyes.
Not sure how good you can see but the lovelyl red coloring is from being outside about 5 minutes.  They itch & burn like crazy,I sneeze, on average about 6x's every half an hour & my nose is stuffed beyond belief not to mention my throat itchs like a mofo!
OoH! That was a run on sentence, now, wasn't it.
Could never tell I have a degree in English.

Also wanted to let you all know I am over here today:
Come check it out!!!

Tell me do you suffer from allergies?
What do you take to combat it?
Have you ever seen the WeinerMobile?

Not happy!!

I want to cry.
Yep.
Big wails.
I have the lung power to do it.

Why you wonder?
Well I was leaving this morning.
Camera in my bag.
BOOM!
Bag hit the ground.
Of course it did.
That was the type of day I was having.

Got in the car.
Inspected the camera.
It's now broken.
Yeppers.
My Olympus Digi is broken.
The zoom no longer works.
Have to see if I can get it fixed.
Until then,
No camera.

Meg Ryan's Mom

Back a little ways I asked for ideas to do with Cheeks for the cold winter days since NJ experienced a winter like Minnesota.
I said I would feature those that gave me some ideas.

Well out of all my followers only one took up my offer.

That was Meg Ryan's Mom from Look It's Megryansmom

She suggested I take some snow & put it in the tub to let Cheeks play.
I liked the idea sadly, I never did it & now there is no snow left...THANK GOD!

Anywho, first let me just say she is not Meg Ryan's mom, like the Nana thought. The Nana was impressed & thought I was communicating with Meg Ryan's mom. Nana's a pretty woman, kwim?

Now the reason she has such great ideas is because she watches her grandsons. Check out her blog to see what cuties they are! One is just a few months old...I love me some chubby babies & her youngest grandson is a chubber!!!

She also blogs for Chicago Mom's Blog, like I blog for NJ Mom Blog. And she is very witty!!!

So go check her out.
Tell her I sent you.
I even noticed my sister is following her.
She must be cool if Erin is following her.

Ranch Life

So while the dulcid tones of the movie "Spiderman 2" play in the background I was perusing the internet & reading one of my fav blogs:
The Pioneer Woman
Ever read her blog?
If not, go, do not hesistate, just go
And
Check out her cookbook:
The Pioneer Woman Cooks

I digress.
So I said to my beloved.
"Hon, if you ever wanna live on a ranch, I wanna live on a ranch like this one"
&
Then, ala Vanna White, I turned the monitor & showed him her blog.

He says
"You could never live on a ranch. You wouldn't make it one day"
I in turn scoff & reply
"Yes I could. I could live on a ranch. I don't want to work it, just live there"
And he in turn comesback w/
"Um, that's the purpose of living on a ranch, to work it"
Oh that poor man, too many years of heavy lifting & such has left him slightly left of center.
"Bob, if we can afford a ranch, I will live & run the home part & you & the ranch hands will work the ranch. You have 3 strapping young boys, there are your ranch hands"

For some reason he snorted at me & rolled his eyes.
Ha!
I'll show him.

I will turn my little suburban townhouse into a ranch & it will be magnificient.
Now does anyone know how to wrangle some Canadian geese?

Okay, who remembered yesterday was Earth hour?
Huh?
Did you?
I so didn't
BUT did it count that I was in bed by 8:30 & all lights were off 'cept for the tv?
Tell me that counts for something.

Anyway, Earth Day is fast approaching
SO
I wanna know what are your plans?
Do you have any good ideas to help teach your kids about recycling? Keeping the Earth healthy? I need some ideas for Cheeks.

LMK if you have any ideas!!!
Or
If you participated in Earth Hour & will be participating in Earth Day.

Wordless Wednesday~Well Hello!

Saturday, March 20, 2010

It's a beau;tiful day in the neighborhood!

And thanx to P&G & Pantene my day is even more beautiful.
Awhile back they were running a contest via Facebook to win some cool things.
So I entered.
I try to enter a lot of things.
I once read that the more contests you enter, the more you win.
I am finding this to be true.

A couple weeks ago I was checking my "spammy" email.
Lo & Behold I saw something that said "win, prize", words like that.
Normally, I just delete but this time I opened.
Thank God I did.
Feast your eyeballs on this:

I, apparently, won one of the prizes.
A gift box of a few of their products.
Let's check out what was in there.
6 Oil of Olay Rejuviniste Eye Roller things (and yes that is the technical name for them!"
4 Cover Girl Lash Blasts (Love these!)
4 Secret Clinicals Deodorants
Venus Razor
Venus Refills
4 Oil of Olay Body Wash Ribbons
4 Satin Care Shaving Gel
6 Pantene Shampoos
6 Pantene Conditioners
And
A partridge in a pear tree!

Can you believe it?
I have aready given some of my winnings to my mom & sister.
I was so excited to win & then see it show up at my door!!!

Tell me, do you enter contests?
Have you ever won?
What is the coolest thingyou ever won?

Child Labor laws? We don't need no stinkin child labor laws!

We have entered the stage.
The stage where as parents we realize what we had children for.

That's right.
Labor.
No, not the kind where you push him (He was a c-section babe, hello! 11 pounds, 1 ounce, 15mm head....I was not pushing THAT out!).
The kind of labor where you say:
"Cheeks, run upstairs & get mommy her bag"
"Son, get daddy his sneakers"
"Cheeks, you made the spill, get a towel & help clean it up"

It's refreshing.
Really.
I'm thinking of hiring him out.
We could use the extra cash.

I know. I know. It's fleeting.
In a few short years I will have to bribe him to do anything.
I'm not above bribery....remember we have an 11 yo & a 16 yo.

For now, we have a more than eager helper.
And I, as his mother, want to nurture that side of him.
Now where is he? I need the van washed!

Conversations with a 3 year old

Cheeks: "Mommy, what's your favorite color?"
Me: "Pink"
Cheeks: "No it's green!"
Me: "No, it's pink"
Cheeks: "No it's green!"
Me: "No, no, it's pink"
Cheeks: "No, no, it's green!"

Upon seeing his father step out of the shower:
Cheeks while pointing to his father's nether region "Daddy, what are those?"
Daddy: "Those are my testicles."
Cheeks: "No Daddy, you have big balls, I have testicles"
Daddy: "Ok, go explain that to your mother."

And what conversations have you been having with your children lately?

As I write this my 3 yo son is upstairs, having just woken up form a 4 hr nap, screaming his bloody head off. Literally screaming at the top of his lungs.
Why?
Well I refused to give him his binky, which I am trying to break him of.

Then he tells me he peed himself.
I go up there to clean it up & told him to put on the new underwear & pants I got out for him.
Well that threw him into an all out fit.
There he goes.
Screaming some more.
As if someone is gutting him.

This is how it's been all day.
He was in the corner all morning pretty much.
Then went to his room for being rude to my dad.

It's 5:15 & I still have to go to the grocery store & take the Tasmanian devil with me.
Oh, another scream.
Good times.

You know I try to keep this blog pretty upbeat.
I do.
Really.
I just can't do it anymore.

I need a few hours by myself.
Perhaps a day or overnight somewhere.

Im not whining.
Really.

I just want to vent & vent to someone who will listen.
Not decide to tell me "this is your life" or "this is the choice you have made"
No shit!
I do what I do for reasons that are important to me.

I feel like I don't get a break.
I already take an antidepressent...what else is left?

I love my family, I love my children.
I just need a break.
A mental health holiday.

Sorry, didn't mean to bore you all.
LIke I said just needed to vent.
